Kenneth R. Freeman

April 27, 1952 - February 18, 2017

Kenneth Richard Freeman, 64, of Sycamore passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Alden Park Strathmoor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 27, 1952 on Camp Cooke, a then Army Base in California to Richard ("Red") and Georgia (Roden) Freeman. After Red concluded his duty with the service the family moved back to the Sycamore-area, where Ken lived for the remainder of his life.

Ken was a graduate of Kirkland High School. His lifelong love for horses began on the trails and in the contest and roping arenas. Ken co-owned and operated Freeman Performance Horses in Sycamore, IL for nearly 30 years. He took great pride in building the program from the ground-up and cherished the many wonderful friendships developed with clients over the years, who were more like family. Perhaps his greatest pride was watching his three children and, later, grandchildren develop his same love for the horses and excel in the show arena. He also worked as a welder at Sycamore Welding & Fabricating, which was originally founded by his father.

Ken was known as a tremendously hard worker and a compassionate friend. He was active in the Illinois Quarter Horse Association, where he held leadership positions throughout his entire career. He was also an avid Chicago sports fan.

He is survived by his mother, Georgia Freeman of Sycamore; one brother, Richard (Julie) Freeman of Genoa; one son, Jason of Gifford; two daughters, Jessica (Brian) Wynn of Chana and Alyssa (Roman, fiance) Freeman of Owensville, Indiana; and four grandchildren Olivia and Owen Wynn and Landon and Carter Freeman. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Freeman. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Alden Park Strathmoor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for their outstanding care provided to Ken.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 21st from 4:00-7:00 PM at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory of Sycamore His Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, February 22nd at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Persson officiating. A private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials can be made to the Illinois Quarter Horse Association in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 601
